Shrinking Farms and Rising Corporate Mechanization in Pakistan
The 7th Agricultural Census 2024 reveals a shrinking average farm size in Pakistan: down from 6.4 acres in 2010 to just 5.1 acres in 2024, despite a 42% rise in the number of farms (from 8.26 million to 11.7 million).
This fragmentation is driven by population growth and urban expansion. Meanwhile, mechanization—especially in Punjab—is accelerating, with machinery such as drones, combine harvesters, seed drills, and laser land levelers enabling large-scale farming under corporate systems.
